1.7.10: Today's Guest

Cecilia Brooke Cholka and Joanne Lopez will be the guests on "The Lisa D Show" today from 1 - 2 p.m. on KHRO 1150 am. Tune in or stream the show fromhttp://main.talkradio1150.com/. The two are co-directors of "Confessions of Women from East L.A." by Josefina Lopez, which will be performed Jan. 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chamizal.

"Confessions of Women from East L.A." gives spectators a serious yet humorous take on what living in the United States is like for women of Latin descent. Although every character is different, López believes that each represents a part of a Latin woman. “Latina women have always been categorized and portrayed as virgins, mothers and whores in plays, movies and television. I don’t like that, because I am none of them. I am a combination of all of them…Latinas are complex, diverse and powerful” she says.

"Confessions of Women from East L.A." is the reappearance and latest production of Los Actores, El Paso’s Spanish bilingual theater company. Because the play deals with mature subject matter, parental discretion is advised.

Tickets are $8 for general admission and $6 for full-time students and seniors 65 or older. Tickets are available at the door starting at 6:30 p.m. on performance evenings and at the Los Actores website, at www.losactores.org. Groups of 10 people or more can take advantage of a special $5 rate by purchasing tickets online at least 48 hours in advance, or by calling 915.240,6128.
