1.26.10: Today’s Guests
Arturo Arce, creator of Hell Paso, a local clothing brand for the city, will be the guest on "The Lisa D Show" today from 1 - 2 p.m. on KHRO 1150 AM. Tune in or stream the show from www.talkradio1150.com. Call the show @ 915.880.4376.
Arturo Arce is a graphic designer graduating from UTEP this May. “He was born and raised in El Paso and always knew he wanted to own his own business one day. As a kid, Arturo saw the term "Hell Paso" used by a graffiti artist and has always felt that this was a catchy nickname for our city. Since then he has heard people refer to El Paso as "Hell Paso" for various reasons, many of which are negative. Last year, he started his own clothing line and decided to call the line Hellpaso, hoping to change the connotation of the nickname and start a local brand for the city. Currently, the clothing line includes hooded sweatshirts, and t-shirts for men women and children. All of these items can be purchased online at www.hellpasostore.com. The Hellpaso brand also includes an upcoming skateboard line, available in the spring. These skateboards will be sold both online and at Crooks Skate Shop on 5640 Montanta and 1791 N. Zaragoza Rd. He is currently working with Jesse Perez, owner of Crooks Skate Shop, in hopes of developing a project which would include donating skateboard decks to lower income children. By providing these children with an alternative lifestyle, Arturo hopes to deter them away from drugs, gangs or alcohol.”
We’ll also feature Dr. N.A. Adams of Texas Tech, author of Nutirition for the Eye, a book on how to protect your vision. The book is published by local publisher Stanley Publishing Co. This Thurdsay, Jan. 28, Dr. Adams will talk at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine on “Introduction to Eye Nutrition.” For more information about this book visit www.stanleypublishing.com.
