The Lisa D Show with Ken Krimstein, Unedited

The Lisa D Show podcast features 20 minute, unedited conversations with creatives.

Our guest Ken Krimstein is a Writer, Cartoonist, Right fielder, Professor in the College of Communications at DePaul University in Chicago, father, neighbor, husband, citizen and friend.

We talk about Ken's work as a cartoonist for the New Yorker, one of the most competitive creative endeavors anyone can pursue. The cartoon below, published in the Harvard Business Review this month, is referred to in the interview and a strong example of Ken's talent.

Because this interview is unedited it plays like a live-radio interview, it's 100% authentic and flawed which is why we kept the part where Ken spilled hot coffee on his leg (7:59) and "yeows" really loud.

See Ken's work at www.kenkrimstein.com

The Lisa D Show is recorded in a former Polish Grocery Store in West Evanston, IL, this podcast celebrates creatives. Listen to 20 minute, unedited conversations with host Lisa D. and the creatives who make our world a more connected, interesting and beautiful place to live. Podcasts will be posted on this blog and on Soundcloud.com, https://soundcloud.com/lisa-degliantoni

The Lisa D Show is Back!

Tuesday, March 11, 2011, was the last time I posted on this blog, telling fans that I would make a move to a new radio show platform. Since 2011 I've been "radio silent" and not doing anything in front of a microphone. Today I am excited to announce that "The Lisa D Show" is BACK in the form of a weekly podcast.

For those of you meeting me for the first time, I'm a former radio talk show host. My work as a radio personality in El Paso, Texas, from 2005- 2011, was beyond enjoyable and rewarding; I was paid to talk to humans for 1-3 hours a day on live, call-in radio. My radio shows took many forms; political talk show host on a call-in station, lifestyle talk radio host for "Charlando con La Gringa" (translation: chit chat with the white girl) on airwaves out of Juarez, Mexico, and host of "The Lisa D Show" a weekday call-in talk radio show featuring guest interviews and cultural news of the day. "The Lisa D Show" was my longest run as a talk radio show host, honoring me with a slick logo!

When my family left El Paso, TX, for Evanston, IL, in 2011, I had intentions of setting up shop on a new platform ... it took me 6 years! Thank you returning fans for waiting for my voice to reappear and welcome new fans to my podcast, "The Lisa D Show." You can look forward to conversations with creatives, roughly 20 minutes in duration, posted on a weekly basis. I believe creatives (of all kinds) make our planet a more connected, interesting and beautiful place to live. My energy and enthusiasm for my guests will be consistent, I don't invite guests whose work I don't admire. This podcast will 100% FOTP (Focus on the Positive) and isn't a criticism-based platform. Don't be afraid to request to be on the show, email me at thelisadshow@gmail.com.

"The Lisa D Show" will be recorded in a former Polish Grocery Store at 1100 Florence Ave. in Evanston, IL. We welcome a live audience and will announce podcast recordings and guests using Facebook Live so you can stop by and see the podcast in action.

We will post new podcasts on this blog or you can listen on Sound Cloud

Before I forget I want to thank my supportive husband Dave Ford for nudging this project along and helping get me back in front of a microphone. Dave is very familiar with my love of conversating and thinks I do it very well, his enthusiasm is much appreciated!

11.8.10: Today's Show

Today on The Lisa D Show at noon we'll start the show with an interview with Chris Babcock for a little news analysis and opinions on news that should matter to you.

Also we'll talk to Andy Moran from the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestras about a very exciting and Yummy fundraiser! Today is Papa John's day for the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestras! All El Paso & Las Cruces locations will be donating 20% of YOUR order to help fund the EPSYOs scholarship fund! Order a slice and support our local young musicians!

Then we'll talk to Maya Sanchez about this weekend's grand opening the Mission Trail Experience, kicking off with free shuttle service the entire month of November.

Press Release

November 2, 2010 - The soon to be launched Mission Trail Visitor Center to offer interactive shuttle-tour packages that range in price from $5 to $65. Weekend shuttle service begins November 12, 2010 and full tours start November 13, 2010. The unique offerings include pick-up at area hotels and cater to both visitors and residents and highlight the borderland’s unique history including our historic missions as well as art, education and entertainment.

Locations featured in the various Mission Trail Experience tours include the Ysleta and Socorro Missions, San Elizario Chapel, Mission Trail Visitor Center, San Elizario Artist and Historic District, Los Portales Museum, Veterans Memorial Museum, Old El Paso County (Billy the Kid) Jail, Licon Dairy, The Bookery, exclusive access to Casa Apodaca (housing El Paso’s first silent movie theatre), Tigua Indian Cultural Center, Speaking Rock Entertainment Center, El Paso Connection and area restaurants El Meson de Onate and El Bandido Cantina.

In addition, some highlights are sure to delight as they involve audience participation and the element of surprise! Old West “stagecoach-esque” hold-ups will have passengers “bartering” to stay out of jail and the traditional Tigua Round Dance involves guests in a time-honored cultural celebration. Some offerings will include the pageantry of traditional folklorico dancing and guests can stroll along the historic trail while being serenaded by the strum of traditional Spanish guitar and other musical stylings. The history of the Missions and other local history will be presented in a state of the art theatre and by professional tour guides along the Trail.

Through the cooperation of the Mission Trail Association, the Diocese of El Paso, the Tigua Nation, the San Elizario Genealogy and Historical Society, the Cities of El Paso and Socorro, the County of El Paso and the El Paso Art Association, all entities that have shaped the Mission Trail are represented and have a part in presenting the colorful history of the area which is home to many “firsts” in El Paso and in Texas as a whole.

The newly acquired 14-passenger shuttle van will also provide weekend shuttle service up and down the nine-mile corridor and will premiere with free rides for the month of November. Pick-up points include select downtown and airport hotels as well as the Mission Trail Visitor Center.

Today on "The Lisa D Show" at noon MST on KHRO 1150 AM we'll interview Chris Babcock about the news stories of the day that matter; Mexican cities will not celebrate The Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 16, the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the continuing drug war and the grand opening of "Man Made Thunder" at the El Paso Museum of History.

Info: I'm Doing El Paso sets out to prove wrong one old adage about the Sun City. There's plenty to do here and we've got proof. We at IDEP are a group of young professionals who believe that people who say there's nothing to do around here are either not opening their mind or have their eyes closed. From Monday happy hour drinks with co-workers and friends to concerts and plays on the weekends -- ELP days are filled with places to go and people to meet. We are old pros at happy hours and special events, and we want you to be too.

www.elpasomissiontrail.com

El Paso ERA
Live in the studio we'll talk to JJ and Alan about ERA, a very cool new project that helps promote arts & culture events in El Paso. "ERA started when JJ and Stephen Escarzaga decided to help out the local music and art scene through education, special events and community outreach in December 2008. Alan went to a show at the Black Market on December 28th, 2008, but it got cancelled. Seeing the 3 touring bands (Local Natives, Voxhaul Broadcast and The Union Line) stranded with no where to go, Alan helped them get their show back, beginning his involvement with music in El Paso. on January 3rd, Alan met with JJ and Stephen and saw that they all shared the same ideas, and began planning ERA."
