Proposition: Benefits controversy hits ballot

The El Paso Times recommends that you vote FOR the proposition on the ballot.

It reads, "Shall the ordinance, endorsing traditional family values by making health benefits available only to city employees and their legal spouse and dependent children, be approved?"

The slant of the El Paso community -- heavily Catholic, heavily Hispanic, cherishing tradition -- appears to be in favor of this proposition. We agree.

Foes are saying this will affect retirees. This is untrue and is simply a scare tactic.

On Aug. 25, 2009, City Council approved extending health and medical benefits to same-sex and unmarried partners of city employees.

This was done without an adequate chance for city residents -- whose tax money pays for benefits -- to voice their opinions. Council members apparently thought the majority of El Pasoans wouldn't approve of their move.

This is a chance for El Pasoans to give voice to their opinions.

We recommend that El Pasoans vote FOR, in favor of traditional family values.

  1. I completly agree with the final decision of restricting these benefits to the people for which they were originally established.
Considering that being gay is a "lifestyle"; is an election that people take with their lives, you have to accept the consequences.

Being together, if you are gay, doesn't mean an accepted marriage. Marriage was created naturally for the reproduction of humanity; and since human beings exist as such, marriage has formed the nucleus of society.

That is precisely the reason why society is in decadence, because not believing in the importance of marriage leads to the disorientation of the offspring and the "liberalization" of commitments.

Wanting or not, you have a commitment. A commitment to your husband/wife, your children, society, but specially to yourself. You were born a man or a woman, there is nothing in between. You may elect not to like your body but is yours to keep. Improve or degrade it the way you want, but is yours.

You were born to enhance human beings by improving your mind, body and soul; and using the improvement for the benefit of society. Being gay is ok if you don't involve anybody else. Once you influence other people you are degrading society that is, you degrade "traditional Family values" which are the foundation of society.

Liberals do not think of values as something important. They think everything is relative. If marrying a dog is in fad, then let's approve dog marrying!. If exchanging wives is in fad, let's make a TV program and everybody will see it as normal.

In closing, I challenge you. Make a commitment, and keep it!. Values are not relative, that is why commitments are difficult to meet. Be a man (or a woman).

  2. Anonymous, I appreciate your point of view and respect that you have beliefs that make you feel as though you are on the right side of the conversation. There is nothing about your point of view that improves or benefits society, you only stand to benefit those who think the same way you do. Thank you for posting and have a good weekend.
