We're featuring Patty on the air now for several reasons; we are in full swing for lunch and dinner schedules that have to work around school and sports schedules and we are dealing with very high rates of obesity in adolescents.
The statistics are startling:
•16 percent of children (over 9 million) 6-19 years old are overweight or obese - a number that has tripled since 1980
•Nearly one-third of U.S. children aged 4 to 19 eat fast food every day, resulting in approximately six extra pounds per year, per child
•Only 35 percent of adolescents meet current physical activity recommendations
•We are now seeing the first generation that will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents
