8.25.10: Today's Show

Today on "The Lisa D Show" at noon MST on KHRO 1150 AM we'll interview Adrian Madrigal, the coordinator of "Lunch Times Stories" at the park. Every Thursday, you can enjoy a free presentation under the massive pine tree at San Jacinto Plaza in Downtown El Paso. Tomorrow, Luke Franco, President of the El Paso Flute Club will be the storyteller on “You Can’t Handle the Flute!” this Thursday, August 26th at Lunch Time Stories at the Park from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at San Jacinto Plaza, in Downtown El Paso. He will play the flute and be accompanied by an electric guitar.

Then we'll move on to discussing FOOD, specifically veggies and how to get your kids to eat them. We'll interview Patty James, a Certified Natural Chef with a Master's degree in Holistic Nutrition. Patty was founder and director of the Patty James Cooking School and Nutrition Center, the first certified organic cooking school and nutrition center in the country. Patty will discuss how to teach kids to say "More Vegetables, Please!"

We're featuring Patty on the air now for several reasons; we are in full swing for lunch and dinner schedules that have to work around school and sports schedules and we are dealing with very high rates of obesity in adolescents.

The statistics are startling:
•16 percent of children (over 9 million) 6-19 years old are overweight or obese - a number that has tripled since 1980
•Nearly one-third of U.S. children aged 4 to 19 eat fast food every day, resulting in approximately six extra pounds per year, per child
•Only 35 percent of adolescents meet current physical activity recommendations
•We are now seeing the first generation that will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents
