Today on "The Lisa D Show" at noon MST on KHRO 1150 AM we'll interview the members of a new Gay sports league coming to El Paso! Christine Baxley, coach of the Red Snappers - LGBT Softball Team & Board Member of Rio Grande Adelante, Inc. and Veronica Camacho, coordinator of the LGBT Basketball Tournament & Board Member of Rio Grande Adelante, Inc.
Christine and Veronica will discuss this new league and several other LGBT events happening in El Paso this month, like the Hate Crimes Vigil.
Info: Rio Grande Adelante, Inc., in collaboration with several other local government entities and agencies (including 1150 am), is hosting a "Hate Crimes Vigil" on Tuesday the 12th of October at Madeline Park (at the corner of Kern and Cincinnati). The vigil will be at 9:00pm following a showing of the Laramie Project at the Fellini Film Cafe. The Laramie Project is a documentary based on the play that highlights the life, death and aftermath of Matthew Shepard. This movie and the play documents the events that surround the murder of Matthew Shepard.
The Vigil will be at 9:00pm and will be hosted by Chief Deputy Sheriff Sylvia Aguilar. Other speakers include Commissioner Veronica Escobar, City Rep. Lily and Byrd, representatives from the District Attorney's Office, and representatives from the El Paso Police Department. The candlelight vigil will be until 10pm and a video will highlight the somber importance of recognizing "Hate Crimes" and the 1st anniversary of the Federal "Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Act".
Also we'll recap yesterday's interview with Hara Estroff Marano on bullying and how to foster the coping skills to defend against bullies; sense of humor and assertiveness are the key!
