Madama Butterfly / Thursday, March 18, 2010 – 6:30 PM
Dr. Michael A Tomor, EPMA Director will give opening remarks and an introduction to the featured artwork. Following this, two arias will be performed: Un bel di and the Flower duet. Both are arias in Italian from Madama Butterfly, composed by Giacomo Puccini (Italian) between 1900–1904. Singers Helena Ip and Samantha Morales, both sopranos, will be accompanied by Zeke Meza on the piano. All three singers are voice students currently enrolled at the University of Texas at El Paso Music School under the direction of Dr. Elisa Wilson, director of the UTEP Music Theatre Company. The performance will be set to the backdrop of an untitled wood cut (man in a kimono) by an anonymous artist which is a gift of Mr. F.M. Thomlinson in Memory of Mr. Matthew Tomlinson from the permanent collection at the EPMA.
