2.26.10: Today's Guest

Today’s guest on the Lisa D Show is Robert Holguin, ex-El Pasoan, musician, reporter and resident Los Angelen.

Robert Holguin used to be a reporter at the El Paso Times, focusing on arts and culture, and eventually becoming the assistant editor of the 'Living' section. In 2000, Holguin started as a reporter at KVIA, before becoming the weekend anchor, and then eventually co-hosting "Good Morning El Paso" as the fourth “Robert” to host. Holuguin left El Paso in 2006. These days he's a reporter and fill-in anchor at the ABC affiliate in Los Angeles. Holguin continues to stay very involved film and music.

Holguin is also a guitarist and is part of the band The New Plastic Machine. What kind of music genre is the band? According to them, a little bit of everything. From The New Plastic Machine website:

From the band website: Can you call it a "supergroup" when none of the members are famous? Perhaps only if the players are able to smash the dogmas of pop music by coming together on a project that re-invents the conventions of a traditional band.

Such is the case with the New Plastic Machine, which manages to synchronize several personalities and styles into one album of original music. The eight songs on the group’s debut EP embody the New Plastic Machine aesthetic, an injection-molded creation that glides effortlessly from R&B-infused pop to guitar-heavy modern rock, with influences that include everyone from David Bowie to Wilco to Tracy Chapman and even The Killers.

Today on "The Lisa D Show" we're going to feature Dan Bova, the executive editor of Maxim magazine. Bova will join us live on the air to talk about celebrity infidelity.

As the media reels from Tiger Wood's confession, it's important for us as Americans to look at the larger trend of celebrity entitlement when it comes to chasing tail. What better expert to bring into this conversation than the executive editor of a men's magazine like Maxim?

For those of you that aren't familiar with Maxim, click here to view the website and make sure your kids aren't around.

Travel + Leisure disses El Paso International Airport

Travel + Leisure Magazine's February 2010 issues features a long list of the ugliest airports in the world and El Paso International Airport is #13. El Paso has a way of making it onto these lists of ugliest, sweatiest, smelliest, etc. How sad. How did they come to this conclusion? See below.

Read the full article here. Or read it here:

El Paso International Airport, El Paso, TX

"You are unlikely to mistake El Paso International for any other airport on the planet. Arguably that’s a good thing. The terminal is an apparent attempt to blend regional style—southwestern adobe, more or less—with...something harder to identify. (That domelike copper roof belongs where, exactly: on an old train station? a Greek Orthodox church? in Paris?) Inside, fast-food outlets and ticket counters are dressed up in southwestern drag. But the pièce de résistance lies at the airport entrance. Dedicated in 2007 and purportedly the world’s largest bronze equestrian statue (36 feet tall), it depicts Spanish conquistador Juan de Oñate, who reputedly gave El Paso its name, on a rearing horse. However, de Oñate’s special talent was massacring Indians, notably some 800 residents of the Acoma Mesa, and is, as a result, politically troublesome, so the statue is now simply called “The Equestrian.”

The Upside: It’s unique."

2.16.10: Today's Guests

Today on "The Lisa D Show" we'll talk to Chris Babcock for our weekly dose of news analysis on news that matters to you!

We'll also talk with Ernie Hernandez about a very exciting fundraiser on March 27 benefitting El Paso Sun City Pride. Hernandez secured Skyy Vodka, Ardovino's Desert Crossing and Southern Wine and Spirits to throw a fantastic party feaurting El Paso native and celebrity Bo Dixon.

Bo Dixon will be signing his new beefcake calendar and raffling off workout sessions for interested parties. Proceeds will go towards outreach, education and events sponsored by El Paso Sun City Pride.

"El Paso Sun City Pride celebrates the present, envisions the future and honors the past accomplishments of our community through the visibility and awareness created by progressive policies already in place in our beautiful city of El Paso. “Coming Out” marks the beginning of the gay self-realization process; “Pride” marks its culmination.

In addition to celebrating our positive contributions, our sexual identity, our cultures, our families, our accomplishments, our individuality and our on-going struggle for civil rights, EPSCP will help thousands discover the breadth of the LGBT community in El Paso. Community organizations such as ours provide opportunities for education, growth and self-realization, as well as increasing the diversity, visibility and unity, in and between, the LGBT and Straight communities."
