1.13.10: Grow Your Brain Book Winner

Congratulations to Mary who won a signed copy of Jetpack Dreams by Mac Montandon. Montandon was the featured author interviewed on "The Lisa D Show" today and gave away a signed copy of his book to Mary who answered this trivia question correctly; Q: Where did the author call from? A: Brooklyn, New York. Congratulations Mary, enjoy your copy of Jetpack Dreams, it's in the mail.

Tune in Wednesdays for the weekly segment "Grow your brain, win a book!" I'll interview an author and during the following segment, ask a trivia question from the interview and the first caller (915.880.4376) to answer the trivia question correctly will win a signed copy of a book by the author interviewed that day. The book will come to you in the mail, you'll read it, and your brain will grow.*

For information on how you can become a featured author on "The Lisa D Show" email thelisadshow@gmail.com.

*I have no evidence your brain will grow if you read a book, but it sounds good, so we're going to use it.

1.13.10: Today’s Guest

Mac Montandon, author of Jetpack Dreams, will be the guest on "The Lisa D Show" today from 1 - 2 p.m. on KHRO 1150 am. Tune in or stream the show from www.talkradio1150.com. Call the show @ 915.880.4376.

Montandon has written for the New York Times, New York magazine, Details, Salon and Spin, among others. He is the editor of Innocent When You Dream: The Tom Waits Reader, and is founding editor of The Silence of the City (silenceofthecity.com), and Best Recession Ever! (bestrcessionever.com). His most recent book is Jetpack Dreams: One Man’s Up and Down (But Mostly Down) Search for the Greatest Invention That Never Was. He is currently working on a book about zombies, due out from Wiley this year, as well as a biography of his brother. Mac lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife and two daughters. He can be reached at www.jetpackdreams.com.

Jetpack Dreams is a charming and hilarious pop-socio-cultural history of the greatest invention that never was, the jetpack, a sincere meditation on the glory of flight and a participatory journey through the bizarre subculture of jetpack enthusiasts in search of a working model.

The book chronicles the colorful pop history and science of jetpacks, from the first flimsy, shoulder-mounted wings to Bill Suitor's 1984 Olympic flight; from a gruesome jetpack-driven murder in Houston in the mid-1990s to the secret laboratories and government facilities of today.
