8.30.10: Today's show

Today on "The Lisa D Show" at noon MST on KHRO 1150 AM we'll interview Chris Babcock about the news stories of the day that matter; Mexican cities will not celebrate The Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 16, the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the continuing drug war and the grand opening of "Man Made Thunder" at the El Paso Museum of History.

For the live interview segment we'll talk to Nancy Hanson from the Lower Valley Housing Corporation, a nonprofit corporation, that has helped low-income families build over 360 new homes since 1990 in El Paso County through a program called "mutual self-help construction." Mutual self-help construction is where LVHC forms groups of 8-12 families and teaches them how to build at least 65% of their homes. The balance of the work is done by professional contractors. This practice decreases the cost of the home significantly, making purchasing a home very affordable.
