Shannon Osborne's World Cup Jewelery

Press Release: UTEP Entrepreneur Launches World Cup Jewelry

A woman who has used her energy and creativity to promote UTEP activities for years has put those same talents to work for a new personal business venture that officially opens today.

Shannon Osborne, a Student Development Center coordinator, has part of her Bead Crazy Shannon jewelry collection on sale at Max Mina Consigned Designs, 2609 N. Stanton, Ste B, in El Paso.

Osborne, a self-taught artisan, has fashioned trendy, personalized jewelry for 18 years. To this point, she has limited her sales to family, friends and neighbors. She recently began to promote her stylings on her facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Bead-Crazy-Shannon/114562475256329?ref=ts

“I want to target a niche where I can provide someone with something personal, something unique to you,” she said on the eve of her sales at Max Mina. “Jewelry expresses who you are.”

Her merchandise – earrings, bracelets, necklaces, anklets, wine charms, key chains, and more – ranges in price from $3 to about $30 for jewelry sets. Among her hottest items right now are World Cup soccer-inspired earrings. She matches soccer ball beads with team colors in different designs.

Among her customers is El Pasoan Luis Avila who bought a pair of soccer earrings for his niece. They sported the colors of her home country: Mexico.

“I thought (the earrings) were creative,” he said, adding that he would consider buying other items for female relatives or friends. “This is a good side business for Shannon. It could grow into something bigger.”

Patricia Martin, owner of Max Mina, said shoppers that she has spoken to often want to support local designers. She was excited to have Osborne’s products in her showroom because of their eclectic style.

“Every piece is unique,” she said. “You can see Shannon’s vision in each one.”

People who know Osborne, a Student Development Center coordinator at The University of Texas at El Paso, can testify to her vibrant personality and expressive talents. She showed off some of her abilities recently when she created videos about herself and UTEP’s Minerpalooza for a 2009 competition sponsored by a local publication. Her entries earned her “Best El Pasoan” and the UTEP event “Best Annual Festival.”

While Osborne has a dream of expanding her hobby, she also does not want to lose the personal touch that involves consultations with the buyers. At some point she would like to offer classes to children and young adults so they can have a similar fun, creative outlet.

Contact Osborne for more information about her designs at beadcrazyshannon@gmail.com.

Below are some good sources to browse before we open the phone lines and we'll kick off the show with an interview with Monday news analysis with Chris Babcock. Call the show from noon-1 p.m. and we'll discuss this topic and more, 915-880-4376.

6.18.10: Today's Show

Today on "The Lisa D Show" at noon on 1150 AM KHRO we're talking to the creators of I'm Doing El Paso, a group dedicated to highlighting the best El Paso has to offer in entertainment, dining and more. Follow the group on Twitter and Facebook and to learn more about them visit http://imdoingelpaso.com.

Info: I'm Doing El Paso sets out to prove wrong one old adage about the Sun City. There's plenty to do here and we've got proof. We at IDEP are a group of young professionals who believe that people who say there's nothing to do around here are either not opening their mind or have their eyes closed. From Monday happy hour drinks with co-workers and friends to concerts and plays on the weekends -- ELP days are filled with places to go and people to meet. We are old pros at happy hours and special events, and we want you to be too.
After all, this is what makes El Paso one of the coolest places in the world.

Today on "The Lisa D Show" at noon we will talk to the minds behind KOI productions, Bianca Cervantes, Creative Director. Tune into the show at KHRO 1150 AM or stream the show at www.talkradio1150.com.

Info: As with real life scenarios, in photography and film, we're careful when we choose our surroundings.
Autofocus doesn't always work in dark moments, forcing me to manually to see the light.
Fast shutters are good for immediate gratification, but a slower pace reveals much more.
Flashes and strobes are good for professional glamour, but nothing beats sunset lighting to expose beauty in it's most natural form.
Creative, modern art can flourish with choppin and screwing. But it takes a gifted eye to engage a viewer with the raw truth of an unedited shot.
Our first camera was a Rebel.
As are we.

18-year-old Chicana artist, Impala Mata, can't wait to escape her monster truck-obsessed, Texas bordertown family. But the summer before she's supposed to leave for college, she falls in love with a girl -- a truck-racer, no less -- and suddenly, she finds herself switching gears.

AUDITIONS:
Sides and a link to video uploading instructions will be provided to those for consideration.

CASTING BREAKDOWN:
1. IMPALA
She is Chicana, brown-skinned, 17-years-old, with long messy hair and torn jeans. Her parents own El Paso’s first monster truck shop in town. She quickly becomes a pseudo-punk, with short spiky hair and a pierced nose, as soon as she leaves home for college.

2. LETTY
She is a beautiful, 17-year-old, Mexican mechanic with curves that put the sand dunes to shame. She lives in Juarez, but works and plays in El Paso. Her latest project is a home-style rebuild of a giant 4x4 truck. She’s a tough kid raised by a single mom. Spanish is her first language, but she is fluent in English. She is Impala’s love interest.

3. MRS. ANA MATA
A mid-40ish middle-class Mexican American woman, with perfect French-cut nails, and a raise-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps attitude. Perfectly bilingual. She runs her shop with no-nonsense leadership, always decked out in high heels and Oscar de la Renta.

4.TIA KIKA
Mrs. Mata’s sister is a single Mexican woman, in her late 40’s, with an uncompromising entrepreneurial spirit. Bleached blond, small-time smuggler of items under $100 across the Juarez International Bridge. Spanish is her dominant language, but she is fluent in English.

5. CARLOS
Nineteen-years old, Chicano. His high cheek bones leave more tread marks on teenage hearts than a new set of tires. He is Letty’s love interest.

6. MERCEDES MATA
