5.5.10: Today's Show

Today on the Lisa D Show at NOON, Commissioner Anna Perez will call in to discuss her decision for the County to support a resolution against SB1070 and encourage an Arizona boycott.

Also, we'll find out what kind of meat they use at the Charcoaler because admit it, the hamburgers are just too good to be normal meat.

Then we'll talk to our good friends from the El Paso Diabetes Association about this weekend's walk to help raise awareness about diabetes. See registration info at the bottom of this post.

THE EL PASO DIABETES ASSOCIATION PRESENTS:

DIABETES WALK 2010


(El Paso, Tx) May 3, 2010- On May 8th, the El Paso Diabetes Association will be hosting their annual “Diabetes Walk 2010”. There will be a 2 mile route and a 4 mile route. The public is encouraged to stay after the walk and enjoy music, food, and entertainment for the children.


WHO: El Paso Diabetes Association

WHAT: Diabetes Walk 2010

WHEN: May 8, 2010 @ 9 a.m. (registration @ 8 am)

WHERE: Union Plaza Park/Used to be Bicentennial Park, (117 Anthony)

WHY: To bring awareness to diabetes and the complications that comes with uncontrolled diabetes

In El Paso, there are over 100,000 people that suffer from diabetes
up to 25,000 are undiagnosed
Fifty percent of all patients admitted to local hospitals have diabetes related complications and 70% of those admitted could have been prevented if they would have controlled their diabetes
Diabetes is one of the top three reasons why community residents access the emergency room
Diabetes is 2nd leading cause of death in El Paso
One in 4 El Paso children is already “at risk” of diabetes
COST: $5 per adult, $2 per children
